VTech Recalls Rattles and Mobiles: Check Your Baby’s Toys!

Recently, VTech recalled some of its child products, due to a potential choking hazard. Certain items, such as the Shake & Single Elephant Rattle and the Lights and Lullabies Travel Mobile were recalled for product defects. These items posed significant danger to infants, toddlers, and young children.

According to a report from VTech, there were five incidents where the ears of the elephant rattle broke off as the children were playing. These small pieces pose a choking hazard and can result in death or serious injury to a child. According to reports, there have been approximately 280,000 rattles recalled. These rattles were sold between November 2015 and November 2017 from retailers, such as Walmart, Kmart, and Amazon.

With respect to the Lights and Lullabies Travel Mobile, VTech received reports claiming that the plastic crib clamp was cracking leading the mobile to fall into the crib. This defect poses the risk of a child sustaining a head injury or soft tissue injury. According to reports, there have been 37,000 mobiles sold between February 2017 and November 2017 from multiple retailers across the country. The recalled model numbers are as follows:

  • 80-503000 and
  • 80-503050.

According to Vtech, these items should immediately stop being used and the consumer can obtain a full refund or replacement by contacting VTech. In addition, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends that consumers contact VTech at 800-521-2010 with any questions, concerns, comments, or assistance with a product refund.

It is important to remember that defective children’s toys that result in death or injuries may give rise to a claim that results in compensation from the manufacturer or seller. Product liability law holds a manufacturer or seller responsible for a defect in the product’s design.

If your child has suffered a serious injury as a result of a defective toy, you may be entitled to compensation.
